This thing is freaking WILD – I’m hesitant to reveal this trick but here ya go – if you use this across multiple channels (like every channel/group of your mix), dialing in saturation, compression, age, etc. to taste, you’ll wind up with a vibey, forward record where everything just glued together so nicely. It’s really just incredible. Outstanding plugin and company

I used it on synths and on the masterbus.Very cool drop out, saturation and wow functions.

Honestly my music almost suffers because this plug-in is so good that I want to throw it on absolutely everything. It makes almost everything sound better.
LijShaw (verified owner) –
This plugin is just plain cool. I learned about it from my interview with Colin Dupuis on my podcast https://recordingstudiorockstars.com/rsr341-collin-dupuis-mixing-angel-olsen-lana-del-ray-yves-tumor/ To be honest I bought it live while I was doing the interview lol. Shhh…
On first listen, I was really blown away at how awesome this thing sounded. I can take a single mic from the drum kit and transform it into a complete drum sound if I want. And the flanger effect is fantastic! I can’t wait to start using this on mixes and for production early in the creation of a track.
I went ahead and bought the rest of the plugins too. They are all killer! Should have just bought the bundle to start.
Cheers,
Lij Shaw

Actually one of the plugins I use the most. And this is exactly the type of plugin that totally defies the norm that “BIG MONEY = BIG PRODUCT”. This is really one of the best things I’ve ever bought and I would really pay four times more for this since it’s so good.
Guitar, Keys, Drums, Vocals, even the Mix Bus often gets treated with this. Gives everything that feels stale and boring a little more life.
I can’t recommend this enough. Please continue to pump out these high value plugins for us.

Fantastic sounding tape plugin with lots of options, not to mention the steal of a price. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.

There is another plugin out there that also does what this does but as a peer of mine put it best, Sketch Cassette just makes the decisions easier. There IS something to be said about using your eyes less and your ears more and the GUI here actually pushes you toward what your are hearing more than what you are seeing. The other plugin in question is also perhaps a little more “gourmet” but at the price point, Sketch Cassette is a clear Grand Slam! You guys really knocked it out of the park. I bought the Shapeshifter also and the same aspect of listening more applies to it also. I love using both plugins as they serve the creative process immensely. Great work!

Good price and sounds pretty legit, unlike others I’ve heard.

Well done to all three of you, saw the videos heard the quality, bought the bundle…best $25 I’ve spent. Keep up the great works guys. looking forward to your future projects with anticipation. Much thanks and miaow amigos. : )

Been seeing in ramzoids video a lot, and decided to use the code and buy. Dont regret! I have used the waves cassette before, and it doesn’t sound as good to me. Will keep using in future!

Version II. Excellent update to the previous one. And a fine assortment of presets that really show off what this can do. Great plugin! Thanks.
lovegeek (verified owner) –
To be honest, I’ve only just downloaded, but haven’t installed SketchCassette II yet.
The fact that this is a free upgrade to an excellent plugin, that is already so reasonably priced (And Shape Shifter is amazing too!), is reason enough to show some love here!
Also, I just know I’ll love it anyway!
Thanks.
danielforests (verified owner) –
I’ve been using this since white sea audio featured it in his video but now writing this review now because Im impressed with the fact that they’re giving us a free upgrade to an already affordable plugin.
This plugin is worth every penny. Its different from other tape simulations, offering various modes, age control, saturation, not to mention the NR compressor, and fantastic wow/flutter controls.
Its great to use to control on the high end on sounds and also to give my sounds “”warmth””. It nails the analog feel very nicely.
Lastly, who could forget the unforgettable design! Its a joy to use and joy to look at. Highly recommended.

Best $20 I have ever spent – probably my favourite plugin..
Works wonders to give a bit of magic to anything sounding too clean.. seems to be a slight issue saving settings in Bitwig but apparently being sorted soon.
Cheers,

I LOVE THIS PLUG IN. It is used in some way on almost every mix. Super flexible diverse.
I have gone through many different cassette emulations. Some are great, but this plug in is the best. I often use it for modulation to give my signal a little movement. Brings things to life in exciting ways.
Thanks!

This is one of the best plugins I’ve used in the last few years. I use it on instruments like bass, guitar, and vocals. I love it and I’m going to try to newest plugin release just because this one was so good and easy to use! RELEASE MORE PLUGINS!

Incredible plugin! A go-to
Abdul Hadi Hashem (verified owner) –
I tried a lot of cassette simulation plugins, but in my opinion, nothing comes close to the real thing as much as this one. Very flexible too so it can be used for many different purposes. And the drop out feature is simply amazing.. was looking for this! Really happy with it!!

It’s great, but the presets don’t work in FL Studio 🙁

I don’t write a ton of product reviews, and certainly not on the first day, but I grabbed SketchCassette a couple hours ago and I had to tear myself away to come write about falling in love. I’m always looking for these kinds of decay/saturation/lo-fi plugins – I use them regularly, even in my room with a cassette 4-track and reel-to-reel machine – and the real test to me is how well they perform beyond the (for lack of a better word) gimmick.
Need to make your tracks sound like they’re on an old cassette? Done. But SC deserves to be a lot higher on your list of tools. What you’re getting first and foremost in this plugin is a well-designed set of filters that interact in a bunch of cool ways. But that’s not even all! I love simple compressors, hardware or software, and on/off is as simple as it gets. It sounds glorious and drums and acoustic guitars. Check out the way that the saturation control responds to the ‘age’ slider. Brilliant. Ditch whatever painstakingly-built trem/vibrato/filter chain you’ve saved for spacy sounds, the wow and flutter controls are bananas.
This isn’t just for making lo-fi music. This is a real plugin with a ton of real uses.

Fantastic! I think it sounds way better than the Legendary SP Vinyl Sim Compression. That says a lot. Well worth the 20 bucks.

one of my favourite things, i run my streaming services through this in an aggregate device just to add some more character while listening to music
absolutely beautiful
pls make more plugins i will buy them
Dirk Abmeyer (verified owner) –
Yep! It’s good.
There are plenty of similar plugs out there at the moment.
What makes this product stand out for me is the “DROPOUTS”-function:
The random, yet controllable, function is worth it alone to spend 20 bucks.
This sounds really like a *uckedup tape, or, in case you don’t know that, > Great!

Unexpected, enormous warmth 🙂 This is a most authentic emulation of cassette recorder, I ever used. Please, buy it, support the devs.
Alejandro Alonso Gayoso (verified owner) –
Fucking awesome! gives everything to your music, heart, dust, soul and personality, try not to use on every track if you can! 🙂
Richard Smithson (verified owner) –
BEAUTIFUL sound! Really great work. The compressor is georgous. Make a character compressor next! 🙂
jazzytaxi (verified owner) –
This plugin is unparalleled. I’ve demoed other degradation plugins, specifically looking for something that gave me an authentic recreation of cassette tapes in different levels of degradation. Nothing comes close to this one. The nonlinearities of the dropouts make it sound so real. Amazing work!
maliktrey (verified owner) –
Wow … Just Wow… Love this plugin on so many different ways … it does exactly what i wish from a cassette emulation .. an absolute must-have.
thank s
looking forward to more great plugins

I love this plugin! I had no idea how much I missed that “cassette sound” but this thing warms my heart. Sounds just like my old 144 (plus Radio Shack deck for mix down). Now, is there any way you guys could make a 4 track DAW with this built in? Something that recreates the workflow and simplicity of using a portastudio?
Villyvian van Tiel (verified owner) –
Wauw, wauw, wauw….. This plugin is amazing!!! Finally the piano’s in Keyscape sound exactly how I want them to sound. They come to live. Full of emotion. It has a soul know.
Thank you so much for making this plugin. I love it!!!

Really great! Tons of vibe and the color I remember from my 4-track days. Please add a wet/dry knob and some sort of control for the NR compressor section.
SW2468 (verified owner) –
Currently had no need for a cassette emulation – I picked it up to use purely as a creative effect and this is definitely a good purchase. It distorts, it compresses, it wows and flutters and just adds a great tone to sounds. 🙂
David Nash (verified owner) –
Thank you, just want to express my gratitude that you did this, and for 20 bucks, not too bad. Your plugin is great. The sound is incredible, and this is coming from someone who has spent countless hours over the years working on cassette. My first multitrack was a Tascam 4-trk cassette (a 234 rack-mount, yup they used to make them). Since then I have had many cassette 4-trks and I still have a working Tascam cassette 4-trk in my studio to this day. I think it would be fantastic if you made a simple 4-trk inspired DAW based on, and expanding on, the concept of this plugin, perhaps for people to make songwriting demos on, just like we did in the old days. Anything that makes making music fun again keeps people making music, and thank you for doing that. And thank you again from all of us old guys who started out making music on cassette, back when recording on computers wasn’t an option, and still love the sound of tape.
Derek Hodges (verified owner) –
ive been working with a 4 track for years, and ive tried a lot of tape emulations. this is the best one ive found by far. not only is it incredibly accurate, it focuses on the appealing faults of the medium, and lets you dial in everything individually.
on a side note, i miraculously got this working in Reason. for anyone who uses a DAW that doesnt support vst3, try making a copy of SketchCassette.vst3 and renaming it to SketchCassette.dll
i have no idea how or why this worked for me, i did it out of pure curiosity and it works perfectly. it seems like such a dumb way to fix something but trust me, try it out!
Denis kosiak (verified owner) –
Literally everybody wants this… why would you rather have boxes of cassettes and players around your house when you can simply install a plugin?
Asa Graham (verified owner) –
Entered a giveaway to win this, saw what it was doing and saw the price, saw that it was 2 dudes and a cat, I had to buy it to support. Can’t wait for future products from y’all.
an update where it mutes itself if there isn’t audio actively playing through it would be MUCH appreciated. izotopes vinyl does the same thing its really annoying. RC-20 has it where it’ll mute the noise and that is far far better. Other than that this is amazing.
Sebastian Broholm (verified owner) –
I can only recommend this to anyone who produces music. Best plug-in ever.
Steven Tracy (verified owner) –
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It used to take me a convoluted collection of plugins to create what this does in one shot. Well done and congrats to all involved for making this. Can’t wait to see what else y’all come up with.
Buy this plug now!

I am loving this plugin.
It does exactly what I have been looking for in the way that I have been dreaming. There are plenty of tape emulations out there, but none have the character of Sketch Cassette. I am going to have a lot of fun putting this on my current productions.

What an amazing steal! Super vibey in a Vulf Compressor sort of way. Would love for the plugin to mute its output when no audio signal is detected on the track. Otherwise you’ve got to put a noise gate behind it in the signal chain. Great work developer!
bhenderson6860 (verified owner) –
This is the plugin I have been looking for YEARS and it’s finally HERE for a FRACTION of the average plugin cost. I’ve been approximating this sound with various combinations of more expensive plugins, and I’d even been considering buying some old tape recorder/players to do it the old fashioned way, but this thing does it better and all in one package. Saturation, Filtering, subtle Compression, Wow/Flutter (sine or random, which is awesome), Dropouts, all simple to dial in and super effective. Goes from subtle to extreme, and each component can be turned off to isolate various elements or combinations thereof. If you love degraded sound you will put this on everything from channels to your master bus. I bought it yesterday and already have like 15 instances of it on different elements of my tunes. Get all those tones from early Elliott Smith’s “whisper” to Bibio’s warble to Low’s shredding degradation. I can’t say enough good things about this plugin.
Future features I’d love to see would be a dedicated compression section, more (less natural) waveforms on the wow/flutter, different types of tape hiss, more tape types, more distortion flavors (would be cool to hear one that was less trebly and more concentrated in the low mids), and the option to turn off the changes to the saturation element when you increase the “age” (sometimes I want to really age it without so much distortion). Can’t wait to see what’s next. Great job dudes.

More people need to have this in the arsenal. spent a good amount of money on other plugins over the years and this is by far the best bang for my buck ive ever gotten with a plugin and ive had it for like ten minutes lol. mad ez to use, and instantly gives your track that authentic cassette warmth.
Jason Domantay (verified owner) –
Get this one, y’all. Having grown up with cassettes I’m pretty familiar with the different tape types and this plugin nails the differences between Type I, II, and Metal. This adds so much character to anything you put it on. It’s a no brainer for ambient and LoFi but it will work really well for whatever genre you work on. You can get similar tones to the Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water pedal at a mere fraction of the price. The amount of inspiration that came to me in the first 20 minutes of using this was priceless, at $20 this is an absolute treasure. Simple to use, powerful, versatile, and most importantly sounds amazing. Just do it already so these guys can make more awesome stuff for us! I can’t wait to see what the update brings and what else these dudes have in the works! Great job fellas.

Oh Lord this sounds truly SHITTY and PRETTY. A perfect antidote to pristine audio and a super fun and quick way to get your scowl on. Run your funk jams through this. Run your dubs through it. Run your beats through it. Reap the rewards of Abherrants hard work.
Definitely endorsed by HI-Fi Lo-FI Ambassador Lord Tanuki Himself.

I absolutely love this plugin. I am currently at the tail-end of recording an album that uses a lot samples from old cassettes that I found, and now this plugin is making me go back and do another mix of all the songs, and take a second look at things.
It’s a plugin that I had hoped existed, but wasn’t sure if it did, or if it even could.
I haven’t got too heavy into using each and every option yet, and I’m still a novice with mixing anyway, but this plugin is simple to use and get great sounds out of, even if you aren’t too adept on the technical end of things. I’ve found that a lot of the presets are very good, they show what the plugin can do, and I just find myself trying some of those and then just dialing things back a bit.
I’ve had other cassette plugins that I paid more for, that did not do as much for me.
Highly recommended.
